How to Renew Your Domain Name Before It Expires

Your domain name is your address on the internet. It powers your website and, in most cases, your business email too. Domains are registered for a fixed period, usually one year or more, and must be renewed before that period ends. If you forget, your website and email can stop working.

This guide explains how to check when your domain expires and how to renew it smoothly.

Why domain renewal matters

• Your website goes offline when a domain expires, because it no longer points to your hosting.
• Your email stops receiving messages, so customers’ enquiries may bounce.
• You could lose the domain entirely if it passes the grace and redemption periods and becomes available for others to register.
• Your search visibility suffers if your site is unavailable for an extended period.

Step 1: Find your domain’s expiry date

Log in to your Salama Hosting Client Area and open the Domains section. Each domain shows its registration date, expiry date and renewal status. Make a note of the expiry date in your calendar.

Step 2: Check your contact details

Renewal reminders are sent to the email address on your account. Before renewal time arrives, confirm that:

• Your account email address is current and checked regularly
• Your phone number is correct
• Someone else in your organisation also receives billing notifications, in case the main contact is away

Step 3: Renew the domain

1. In the Client Area, go to Domains and select the domain you want to renew.
2. Choose Renew.
3. Select the renewal period. Renewing for more than one year means fewer reminders and less risk of forgetting.
4. Review the invoice and complete payment using your preferred payment method.
5. Confirm the new expiry date shows in your account once payment has been processed.

If you receive a renewal invoice by email, you can also pay it directly from the invoice link after logging in.

Step 4: Turn on auto-renewal

Where available, enable auto-renewal so a renewal invoice is generated automatically before the domain expires. Pair it with a payment method you keep funded, and still check your email for invoices and payment confirmations.

How early should you renew?

There is no benefit to waiting until the last day. Renewing at least two to four weeks before expiry gives time to fix any payment problems. For most domain extensions, renewing early adds the new period to your existing expiry date, so you do not lose any time.

Beware of fake renewal notices

Scammers send emails and letters that look like official domain renewal notices, urging you to pay urgently through a link. To stay safe:

• Always renew by logging in to your provider’s client area directly rather than clicking links in unexpected messages.
• Check the sender’s email address carefully.
• Contact support if you are unsure whether a notice is genuine.
